The first and most important thing they will do is listen.

"When I ask you to listen to me and you start giving me advice, you have not done what I asked.

When I ask you to listen to me and you begin to tell me why I shouldn't feel that way, you are trampling on my feelings.

When I ask you to listen to me and you feel you have to do something to solve my problem, you have failed me."

Listening

It is recognised that really being listened to is extremely helpful
especially when people are going through difficult times.

This is what SPACE offers

The opportunity of sharing your story with someone who really listens
to your feelings and so enables you to decide on the next step

Does this mean SPACE will not tell you what to do?

The first thing the Listener will do is, listen to you.
At the end of the session they may suggest that you would like to
take up some of the activities and opportunities which
SPACE
provides. Or they may suggest you seek help from another
agency or organisation.
